Understanding the Class System
Understanding the Class System
The class system serves several key functions:
It allows you to release different modules for each class, without the need to create an entirely new product
You can organize your students into different classes and create offers for each class (these offers may have different prices and content)
It enables you to filter and respond to comments by class
You have the option to enable or disable interaction between students from different classes
By default, all created courses come with a class, termed "Class A".
Practical example
Let's say you have a guitar course consisting of 10 modules. Now, you decide to create a more advanced course, featuring the same 10 modules, with an addition of 2 extra guitar modules.
Instead of creating a new product entirely, you can add the 2 new modules to the existing product, and restrict their access only for a new class (Class B).
You can then create a new offer with a different price, and link it to Class B. That way, anyone who purchases the new offer will automatically be added to Class B, and will gain access to all 12 modules.
(The name "Class B" is merely illustrative. You can choose any name you like)
How to create a class
Firstly, navigate to the Classes tab within the membership area. Then, click on the Add Class button:
This will open up a pop-up window:
You have the option to designate this new class as the default (for new students), or you can link it with a specific product offer (offers are set up in the product settings).
If you link the class with a product offer, all customers purchasing that offer will automatically be enrolled in that class.
Alternatively, you can leave the class unlinked from all offers and not set as the default. In this case, the only way to enroll a student in the class is manually (via adding or editing).
Each product can only have one default class.
You can't delete a class if it has students. You must move students to other classes before deleting it.
When a new class is created, its students won't have access to pre-existing modules. You'll need to edit existing modules one by one to grant access to the new class. More on this below.
How to Restrict or Grant a Module's Access to a Specific Class
When creating or editing a module, you can specify which classes should have access to the content:
If you create a class after the modules are already created, you will need to edit the modules individually, to grant access to the new class.
By default, the new class will be unchecked and won't have access to the older modules.
How to Manually Add a Student to a Class
When adding or editing a student, you can select the class for that student.
A student can belong to only one class at a time.
